Lee Soo-man of SM Entertainment and Bang Shi Hyuk of Big Hit Entertainment were choose as "International Music Leader" selected by Variety magazine of U.S..

Entertainment magazine 'Variety' has announced 23 experts (or teams) who will reorganize the world music market at MIDEM, the world's largest music fair held in Cannes, France, from June 5 to 8. The list includes three people from Asia - Lee Soo-man of SM Entertainment and Bang Shi Hyuk of Big Hit Entertainment as well as Scarlet Li of Zebra Media in China.

Variety said, "We selected 23 people based on future prospects of companies, leaders with originality, insight and passion in the music industry."

Variety introduced Lee as "an undisputed K-pop pioneer, Lee founded one of South Korea’s largest entertainment agencies, S.M. Entertainment, in the late 1980s with an even more ambitious vision today. S.M. is home to arena-filling sensations including EXO, who performed at the closing ceremony of the Pyeongchang 2018 Olympic Winter Games, and Super Junior, whose world tour has played 11 countries across Asia, North and South America so far. But now Lee wants to localize the Korean-pop aesthetic he helped design. Announced in 2016, the Neo Culture Technology (NCT) project is a boy band brand with an unlimited number of members separated into different splinter groups based on location."

It also said of Bang who founded Big Hit Entertainment 13 years ago that "2018 will mark the year its boy band BTS solidifies as the K-pop act that is also a global pop force. The septet’s new album “Love Yourself: Tear” is on its way to making history for Korean artists as it battles Post Malone for the No. 1 spot in the U.S. This after 201’s “Love Yourself: Her” EP moved 1.6 million copies worldwide. BTS’ world tour hits America this fall, with four dates already sold out at L.A.’s Staples Center. The group also boasts endorsements with such brands as Coca-Cola, Puma and LG."
