Kara wins the quintuple crown at the Japan Gold Disc Awards 2012.

At the Japan Gold Disc Award 2012 held at Nicofarre in Roppongi on January 27, Korean artists won awards in 13 different fields, showing the dignity of rising K-pop in Japan.

On the day, Kara received five awards: the Best Asian Artist, the Best 3 Albums, the Download of the Year, the Best 5 Downloads, and the Best Music Video.

SNSD was awarded with the Album of the Year with its album Girls Generation. The New Artist of the Year Award went to 2PM, and the Best 3 New Artists Awards went to Jang Keun Suk, 2PM, and B2ST. The trot singer Park Hyun Bin received the Best Enka Song New Artist Award.

The Japan Gold Disc Award has been directed by Japan Record Association and marked this year as the 26th award ceremony. In order to select the winners for the awards, they totaled the sales ratings of albums, DVDs, and sound tracks that were released and sold during 2011 with some points given by judges.

Up till last year, the ceremony had only carried two fields, Japan music and Western music. But this year, they added another field, the Best Asian Artist, considering the expansion of K-pop and gave off its first winners.
